time-outs

While spanking is a bit ridiculous of a punishment, i think time outs are perfectly healthy. As long as the child knows why they are being punished so they do not do it again. If your child deliberately disobeys you, time-out.  Do not let the wild rumpus go on, because you have to let them know you are in control and you make the rules. However do not use time-outs as a result to everything, you don't want them to get used to it. REWARD their good behaviors so they will want to repeat those positive actions instead of their negative ones. By rewarding you do not need to actually give them something, but just a verbal compliment of their manners will reinforce the idea in their mind. Children love when it is noticed that they have been good or done something right without being directed.
