tattoos

I do not like them.

Pets.

Are a lot of work and responsibility. Try your kids out with a fish before you take the leap for a dog.
I am not a cat person, at all. But I love a cat picture every once in awhile.

"Honey...

Life can be a ballroom dance, or it can be full of shit, your job in both cases is to watch where you step..."

Sometimes something beautiful will come out of an accident, and sometimes you have to work very hard to get what you want to achieve. That is life. Take it.

you can fly too...

When you have kids you always want what is best for them. Maybe you see in them something that you once had and you want to help them in areas where you would have wanted advice. Maybe that isn't such a good idea. Whle honesty is key, it is also important to let your children learn from their mistakes and g for their dreams. Just be there for them, so whether they fall or fly, everything will be alright.

letting go

I know it is hard to let your daughters go. Well I do not know first hand, because I do not have children, but I can only imagine. I imagine you want to answer the door when her first date comes to pick her up and say "she moved to China"... or you want to screen every person she talks to and make sure they come from a good family and are headed somewhere in life. What if you really like them as a person, put something just puts you off about them dating your daughter? Parenthood is going through this dilemma, and the daughter sneaks out to be with her "boyfriend"... What could be worse than that. Although he is a VERY nice guy, her parents didn't like them dating, because there is an age difference and he is going through some major struggles that they do not want their daughter to be pulled into. (understandable) But sneaking around can lead to running away. Not good, obviously. Be honest with your children, and they are more likely to be honest with you.
Why can't cute dates happen in real life?

Mellow Mayhem?

March is marvelous, I will say it once, and I will say it again, and again. I love everything about March. It doesn't REALLY matter what you do, it just matters who you are with on these important days. Whether you are relaxing and having a few drinks, or going buckwild. It is the same when having a birthday for a child. You do not need to invite every child in the class, bring cupcakes to share with the class, and then only invite a few closest friends to the actual celebration. It is much more meaningful. However it is always fun to go all out.

limits positive and negative

Whether you are settng a timer, or just sticking to your word, kids need limitations. Limits are not just because they did something wrong, however they can work as a disciplinary action as well. Limiting their television and computer time is a way to start this. Make sure homework and chores are done first, and if you have time, take your kids outside. School does not provide enough outside time at recess anymore and even if you can provide another thirty minutes of outside time, they will benefit.

I grew up on a cul-de-sac and I was thinking about it because I remember Spring Forward was the best time ever, because more light in the evening meant we had more outside time. The rule on our street was once the sun went down and the street lights came on, we all cleaned up and went inside unless an adult was out with us We would spend as much time as possible, roller-blading, riding bicycles, drawing chalk roads and cities, always with friends and having new adventures. I was very lucky, but you do not need these circumstances to have a great time, playing outside with your kids is just as fun for them as if they had a lot of friends, they need social interactions and not just screen time.

helping hand

Whether you are opening the door someone, holding the elevator, or just smiling at someone throughout your day, random acts of kindness can make a very big difference in someone's day. A few days ago I was taking a little girl I watch through a fast food restaurant, usually the people who work at these establishments are nice enough but just get you in and out as quickly as possible. On this specific day I had the best customer service I have ever had in my life, the lady was quick and pleasant, but she genuinely cared about my day and smiled the entire time we were there. I wanted to write a letter of appreciation, but I did not catch her name. It definitely made me realize that even being in a good mood is a blessing and can make even the most ordinary experiences become wonderful.

Sadly, Japan is dealing with a very sad tragedy right now. I am grouping it with this blog because immediately after I heard about the earthquake and tsunami I also heard about all of the different countries stepping up to help out their neighbor. Although Japan is very well off and has many resources, they still need support at a time like this and it just makes me realize that there may not be much I can do to directly help Japan, but just helping others on a regular basis is something I would like to do more of.

Everything I do, I do for America.

I especially am fond of growing up in San Diego, but I have so much AMERICAN pride that it doesn't really matter to me where in America I live. I love to travel, and there are so many great places to experience and the beauty of our world is just breathtaking. This video pretty much sums up my views on how I feel about America and all of the opportunities we have.

the birds and the bees

I never really understood why they called it the birds and the bees. When learning about sex no one ever told be with that vocabulary. My favorite way of telling about sex is from the movie Now and Then when the mother tells her daughter she is a garden. I will not do it justice, but see the video below, it introduces all of the girls in the movie, if you just want to hear the funniest part, go to 4:00. HILARIOUS.

her naive-ness is hilarious after this story when you get to 9:45 in this video, and her friends crack up at her idea of her garden.

"a person is a person no matter how small" - Horton

All your life you have been told, or should have been told, not to judge people. Today I had a very eye opening experience. A panel of people from the LGBT community came into my class to speak about their instances of coming out and what it was like for them. I am not a very open person when it comes to my feelings, and I have so much respect for them because they shared such personal stories with us. As parents you want to know that your children are happy, you do not want them to be the kids that get made fun of, and you do not want them to be different in a negative way. Being part of the LGBT community does not need to be a negative thing. However in all of their cases, they had someone who was very close to them completely blow them off and not want to be a part of their life, sometime a friend or a sibling, but in many cases, a parent. THIS PISSES ME OFF. Everyone should have the right to love who they want and be who they want, and they should be able to be open and honest about it. I understand that when you are raising your child you have dreams and hopes, but are those things really as important as your child themselves? One guy has not spoken to his father since he came out and his father uses derogatory terms when speaking of him. I really just like to believe that people are better than this, I like to see the best in people until they prove me otherwise, and when I hear stories like these I am irate. If your parents aren't there to support you, why are they there?

This connects me to Horton in many ways. One because you shouldn't judge people for something like this, just like Horton is judged and deemed crazy for believing in the small people. Also in relation to parents, the Mayor has a misunderstood son, and then finally at the end the son is the biggest help of all, FAMILY is so important. Don't screw it up.

writing

Most of the time when i blog, it is because i have writers block on the topic i am supposed to write on, for class or what have you. Then I get everything off my mind on here, so that I have a clean slate and can think about whatever it is I have to write about. The funny thing is, I usually blog about parenting or something that I originally thought about in class. Ironic? Maybe, maybe I just picked the most perfect major for my mind. Except half the time I think my teachers have no idea what they are talking about and I know I can do better. Not to say they are not smart, they are, but they have been teaching it for so long an don't practicing it. I spend SO MUCH time with children. I am no genius, but I know what I know. ha

emotions?

I do not like to talk about emotions. Nope, I cry during movies and television shows, but when it comes to my feelings, I do not want anything to do with it. I do feel, obviously... but I just don't know what it is about being open and vulnerable that just makes me irate. I close up and answer with short sentences, just get the point across. I think a lot of it has something to do with keeping a guard up because I do not want to get hurt. There are very few people in the world who I truly and honestly can trust and talk to. In fact I can count them on 2 fingers. So please do not take offense if you are someone I am close to and it seems as if I do not want to talk. I just really would rather listen in some cases. When I want to talk, I do, and then you will want to shut me up.

i will go on and on about things I believe in.

Please do not smoke. It is not good for you. It is not good for our environment. It is not good for the future. Yes I am that person who will walk up to you and ask you not to smoke in public. IT IS A DISGUSTING HABIT. Someone has got to tell you.

Mamma and me

Nothing is bigger than family

life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are gonna get.

I am watching Forrest Gump, yes right now I am sitting in front of my television watching it and I had to blog during it because it is just so amazing. There are so many different elements of love in this movie, family, friends, lovers, just amazing. So many emotions and I cry many times on and off even though I could tell the story just as well as Forrest does. I think it really shows what life is all about. Yes, it can be easier when you have so much money that you don't have to worry about it anymore. It brings up the importance of certain people in your life, and an appreciation for the beauty of everything life brings you.

Panda

I think adoption is a beautiful thing. Whether you bring your adopted baby home from the hospital, or adopt a child that is older, it is a completely wonderful way to create a family. I want to adopt my babies, or children, whoever is in need of my love.

difficulty

I do not know if you know who Max is. He is a young boy with Autism on Parenthood on NBC on Tuesday Nights. I already love all children, but this show really makes me appreciate all parents because parenting is not easy. It is rewarding, don't get me wrong, but whether your child is a straight A child or a child with some sort of difficulty, there are hurdles to parenting. I have the utmost respect for my parents, and the may not know it all of the time but I don't think anyone is smarter than them, or more in love than them. They are my heroes.

step brothers

I love this movie, I cannot get over it. When it is on TV I will drop everything to watch it. Nothing is as important as a good laugh. OKAY there are more important things but this movie is just splendid. As funny as it is, I really think it is a grand family movie. This may seem absurd, but it shows a lot of family conflicts and then in an awkward comedy way they come up with resolutions and it has a fabulous ending. Gosh I just smile thinking about it.

reality tv vs reality

Bethenny ever after is a reality show. If you do not know who Bethenny is, I do not know who you are.
JK JK
BUT really. it is pretty lovely. But this is about something that happened on the show. Her in laws, want to see her daughter Brynn a lot more than Bethenny would like them to because they do not live very close so it takes a whole weekend away if they go to visit. This makes me wonder how much is too much. GRANDPARENTS ARE GREAT, don't get me wrong and it is important to ave them around in the lives of your children if they are still around. But I understand that she wants space, and that some events in the lives of our children should be praised by the family and don't need to broadcast to everyone. Even if that is the only family the grandparents have. One family I babysit for has a really good idea. They have a blog page that dates with pictures and short clips of their children and what the family is up to, so that relatives and close friends can see their lives from all over the country and not have to be there for every event. just a suggestion.

say what?!

Kids. I do not know when I want to have children or who I will have children with. I am in no hurry to settle down, but i do love kids and i cannot imagine my life without them. It would be very dull.

quite often I get really annoyed with my mom because she comes home everyday from working with preschoolers and always has these funny stories to tell. it's not really that the stories are not funny, but my mom is not a good story teller, she makes sure you know every detail of what happened and honestly sometimes it takes so long for her to set the scene that you could care less once the punchline comes around. HOWEVER I am working on my patience with her because I know that I do the same thing. I tell my friends stories about the kids I watch and how proud I am of them when they achieve something new, and I doubt my college friends care at all, but they listen anyways. (but just a tip, when telling a story, think about your main point or the relevance before you start.)

the best part of waking up

Coffee. I was never a big coffee person. NOW I AM. I cannot function through long days of school or work without coffee and I have an amazing appreciation for starbucks and my father. Both of which always have coffee at hand.

contrast

I should probably do something of substance right now, considering I have a three hour break and I am sitting in a perfectly good library at a very nice computer. However when I got here I finished a paper and a powerpoint presentation and now I am sorry, nut I would like nothing less than to just be UNPRODUCTIVE before I have to sit in class from 2-940p. So i keep myself busy by looking at peoples blogs and thinking about normal things, like kids, marriage, television shows, and starbucks. These are things that are very commonly on my mind and f I am not thinking about these things I am thinking about shoes and the beautiful pair that will be arriving this week :) However I have a friend, but we have nothing in common. He does not like blogs, twitter, television, movies, or kids. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. It is funny because when my friends and I all go out we all have a good time, and when we are partying we usually do not talk about these things, but in a more intimate setting THIS IS ALL I TALK ABOUT. SO it is interesting to me and something that find pride in that we can be friends. He will probably never read this because he thinks blogs are dumb, but I just think it is something cool. He likes nature and athleticism and you know stuff like that. Which is totally cool, as long as you don't make me do it. He probably likes weird animals and studying as well.
